Getting Started
How do I take the bass out of a song?
Open the app and tap "Pick a song" to import an audio file from Files or iCloud Drive. You can also share a song into Bass Remover from another app using the iOS share sheet. The track uploads, gets separated, and comes back as a bassless mix on the Practice screen.
How long does it take?
Usually around 30 seconds for a typical 3–4 minute song, and rarely more than about 75 seconds. You don't have to sit and watch it — leave the screen, and the app will let you know when it's done if you've allowed notifications.
What file formats and sizes are supported?
MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC, up to 50 MB or 12 minutes, whichever comes first. Files over the limit are rejected before anything is uploaded.
Can I import from Spotify or Apple Music?
No. Streaming tracks are protected and can't be exported, and Bass Remover deliberately has no catalogue or streaming import. Bass Remover works on audio files you already own — purchased downloads, your own recordings, files in your Files app or iCloud Drive.
Practice Controls
How does the A/B loop work?
On the Practice screen, drag the A and B handles onto the waveform to mark the section you want, then toggle looping on. That phrase repeats until you turn it off. Your loop points are saved with the track, so reopening it from History puts you straight back on the same bar.
Does slowing it down change the key?
No. The tempo slider runs from 100% down to 50% with the pitch locked, so a track slowed to half speed is still in its original key. That's the point — the fingering you practise slow is the fingering you play up to speed. The tempo setting is saved per track alongside your loop.
Can I hear the original to check myself?
Yes. The Practice screen lets you A/B between the bassless mix and your original file, at the same position and the same tempo, so you can hear exactly what the recorded bass part was doing over the bar you're working on.
Separation Quality
I can still hear a bit of bass. Why?
Separation is statistical, not surgical. Dense mixes, sub-heavy electronic tracks, live recordings, and heavily compressed masters are the hardest cases, and some low-end content can survive. If you're on Premium, try HD separation — it uses a heavier model and generally leaves a cleaner low end.
The kick drum sounds different. Is that expected?
It can be. Kick drum, low synths, and upright bass share frequency range and character with the bass part, so removing one can affect the others slightly. Starting from a higher-quality source file — a proper download rather than a low-bitrate rip — makes a noticeable difference.
Does it isolate the bass, so I can hear just the bassline?
No — Bass Remover does the opposite. It hands you everything except the bass, which is what you need to play the part yourself. If you want to study the recorded line, use the A/B compare against your original.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes, to process a track — separation runs on GPU servers, not on your iPhone. Once a track has been processed and downloaded, the practice controls work on the cached audio.
Free vs Premium
What's free vs Premium?
Free: 2 tracks per month (1 per day), full length, no watermark, the full loop and tempo practice controls, MP3 export, and your last 3 tracks in History. Premium: unlimited tracks (fair use — 40 a month), HD separation for a cleaner low end, lossless WAV export, and unlimited practice history. There are no ads on either tier.
When does my free quota reset?
On the 1st of each month. Tracks that fail or that you cancel don't count against it — you're only charged a slot when a job actually succeeds.
What does "fair use — 40 a month" mean on Premium?
Every separation costs real GPU time, so "unlimited" has a ceiling of 40 tracks a month. We'd rather state that plainly than throttle you quietly; it's shown in the app's Settings too. It's far above what a practising bassist typically uses — if you regularly need more, email us.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — the Premium Annual plan ($29.99/year) includes a 7-day free trial. You'll only be charged at the end of the trial. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings before the trial ends.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings inside the app and tap "Restore Purchases". This re-applies your active subscription if you've previously purchased one on this Apple ID.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Bass Remover and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Privacy
Where do my songs go?
Unlike some of our other apps, this one does not run on-device — separating a song needs GPU hardware. Your file is uploaded over HTTPS to Cloudflare R2 storage and processed by Replicate, which runs the Demucs v4 model. We don't listen to, review, index, or train on your uploads. How long do you keep my files?
Your original upload is hard-deleted within 24 hours — it's kept that long only so the Practice screen can A/B against the real recording during your session. The bass-removed result is hard-deleted after 7 days, which is what History reopens.
How do I delete everything you're holding?
Open Settings inside the app and tap "Delete my uploads". Every stored file for your device — originals and results — is removed immediately. The retention notice sits right next to the control so you can see what's being deleted.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no email, and no password. Jobs are associated with a random identifier generated by the app on your device, which is used only for your free-tier quota, your subscription entitlement, and the delete control.
Is it legal to use this on songs I bought?
Bass Remover is built for practising along with music you already own, on your own device, for your own use. What you may not do is publish, distribute, or commercially use a processed recording where that would infringe the copyright owner's rights. See the Terms of Service for the details.
